In 1997 he set up NZ Greenroom Productions Limited , based in Wanaka, and went about building a network of trusted TV production professionals with similar values and aspirations. The initial target market was in extreme sports and adventure tourism and his work was soon winning the attention of the leading broadcasters and being enjoyed by international audiences. Today he is regarded as a supplier of choice by the likes of the BBC, Endelmol Shine, Whisper Films, Red Bull Media House etc and examples of assignments include Ski Sunday, The Summit, Tracked, SAS Who Dares Wins, Wimbledon, the Winter and Summer Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, and the Rugby World Cup.

From the very start he was committed to being among the very best videographers in the world and is on a lifelong learning journey to ensure that he continues to excite and delight his clients. He is an innovator, inventor, communicator, team leader, creative artist, early adopter of relevant technologies, and today delivers to award winning and iconic sports productions in all parts of the world. Whilst Chris is competent in all areas of pre and post programme production, he is happiest when peering through the lens of a camera.

Industry Experience

Not many people can say their career start was as a stunt horse rider on the set of Lord of the Rings, Orlando Bloom’s stunt double or a Ring Wraith, but award-winning Cinematographer and Director of Photography, Chris Kirkham, aka Zoid (the filming robot) is one of them.

While learning from the very best on the LOTR set for three years, Chris got a taste for filming in epic locations and crafting mesmerising digital content for international audiences.

A committed surfer, skater, snowboarder, and outdoorsman, Chris spent his early years in Wanaka, New Zealand, where he was able to combine his passions for the outdoors with his natural desire to capture these pursuits on camera. Slowly he began to hone his craft as an action and adventure sports videographer. It was a match made in heaven.

In the early 2000’s, clients including Red Bull, Hyundai, Surfing New Zealand, Boomerang TV and Billabong recognised the value of Chris’ boundless energy and technically progressive approach and partnered with him to create documentaries and pioneering broadcast television about New Zealand’s board sport culture.

It’s not just the BBC, but also Red Bull, Channel 4, Endemol Shine, Whisper TV and many of the world’s biggest content agencies who have Chris as their top pick for reality, live sport, documentaries, studio and brand content.

Chris’s proudest achievement, however is his hard-earned reputation as an editor’s dream; providing progressive technology, guaranteed quality, all crafted with a wonderfully experienced eye for angles and composition the director’s didn’t even realise they needed.
