film & stay

The elegant Chateau Tongariro is located within Whakapapa Village, in the heart of the Tongariro National Park. This is the oldest national park in New Zealand and it is located in the central North Island. It is surrounded by the sacred peaks of Mount Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro.

A timeless neo-Georgian building constructed in 1929, the furnishings and rooms reflect the hotel’s notable history.

The hotel is very film friendly and also offers great deals and accommodation to film crews coming to the area.

The Chateau was modelled after the Lake Lousie Resort in Canada by Timaru-based architect Herbert Hall (1880–1939).
