rural & industrial
Kawerau town is renowned for its friendliness, great sense of community, wonderful climate and its strong Maori Heritage and has the distinction of being one of the youngest towns in New Zealand. Founded in 1953 the township has been well planned with plenty of parks and reserves and wide tree-lined streets.
The town centred on the flood plains of the Tarawera River between Mount Pūtauaki / Edgecumbe and the Onepū Hills. Geothermal helps run the town and the iconic Tasman Pulp and Paper mill would be a great location for filming. Kawerau has been submitted as a location multiple times.
