quaint & historical township

Ōpōtiki township is situated on a harbour inlet formed by the junction of two rivers. Bounded by these rivers on three sides, the small-town of Ōpōtiki township comprises 309 hectares and houses the Ōpōtiki District Council which comes under the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.

The town centre is one of the best surviving examples of a town centre from the late 19th Century early 20th Century in the upper North Island, retaining a broad range of building types. The intact survival of a broad range of building types gives Opotiki a unique heritage character.
