Ōhope Beach is an 11 kilometre stretch of white sandy beach, only 6 kilometre's from Whakātane.

Think of the beach scene from the Jane Campion film The Piano and you'll be able to visualize Ōhope Beach. It offers a long uninterrupted white sand beach on one side and Port Ōhope on the other is a tidal, calm harbour with a jetty for fishing and boat ramp for launching.
When the tide retreats it there is the choice of large exposed beach and mudflat areas. North facing it gets a lot of sun. Ōhope Beach is nestled among the Pohutukawa trees with the offshore backdrop of volcanic islands Whakaari (White Island) and Moutohoroa (Whale Island). Easy to access and a great place for surfing.
Accommodation is plentiful either through Airbnb, Ōhope Beach Top 10 Holiday Park Ōhope has a small settlement with quaint shops and oozes the Kiwiana surf vibe.
