Originally constructed in the mid-1920s, The Cargo Shed was thoughtfully renovated and transformed into a unique open-plan venue in 2023. While the space has been modernised to support contemporary use, it retains much of its original character, blending the charm of its historic past with the functionality and flexibility required for modern productions.

Its generous open interior makes it well suited for a variety of production needs, from filming locations and set builds to wardrobe, catering, offices, and crew base operations. With easy access, waterfront surroundings, and plenty of nearby amenities, The Cargo Shed provides both practicality and atmosphere.
The Cargo Shed is jointly owned and managed by Tauranga City Council and the Otamataha Trust, representing the hapū Ngāti Tapu and Ngāti Ruahine who hold mana whenua over this area.
