Screen incentives
If you have an eligible local, co-production or international production, there are a number of screen incentives, grants, and support available. The most well-known is through the New Zealand Film Commission, the Government’s agency for film incentives.
Domestic productions
The New Zealand Screen Production Rebate (NZSPR) is a government-backed screen incentives scheme available to international and domestic productions (including Official Co-productions).
The New Zealand Rebate offers a 40% cash rebate on eligible spend and is administered by the NZFC on behalf of the Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
International productions
The International Rebate enables productions to reduce costs while leveraging New Zealand’s unique landscapes and industry capability.
The International Rebate offers a baseline 20% cash rebate on eligible spend and is administered by the NZFC on behalf of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
Productions eligible for the 20% Rebate can apply for the 5% Uplift if criteria are met, including a points test. From the 1st January 2026 a 5% uplift for PDV productions is available.
A Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Rebate is available for productions bringing their post-production, music or visual effects work to New Zealand.
